Base for Earned Value

Hi all,

Want some clarity on selecting Base for earned value.

In progress version setting, we have to define EV base. Possible entries are:

1) Cost plan (active project, overall values)

2) Budget (active project, overall values)

3) Budget (active project, annual values)

4) Cost plan (active project, annual values)

for no. 1 overall planning is only done through CJ40. and for no.4, annual planning can be done through CJ40 or network costing. Can we use transaction CJR2 also for annual planning. Because as per note 390471, it is written that only through CJ40 or network costing we can generate annual plan values.

But, progress analysis only considers costs planned by cost elements then how planned values generated by CJ40 will be useful?

My problem is, If I use budget as the base, I cannot use Cost proportional method, this means that if I want to use Cost prop. method, then I will have to use either No. 1 or 4 as the EV basis.

Hi

Overall cost plan/budget are generated by structure planning in CJ40/CJ30. So these values can only be generated on WBS elements. Other objects as networks, activities, activity elements and orders can never have overall cost plan/budget values. Therefore, this weight can only be used to aggregate WBS elements.

Annual cost plan values can be generated in myultiple transactions. For WBS elements the transactions CJ40 and CJR2 can be used. Calculated costs for networks, activities, elements and orders are also annual cost plan values.

Hope this helps,

Regards

Thanks Martina,

This means that if I use activites then I will use Cost plan annual values as base and can carry out EVA at activity level.

In my case for internal activities, we assign work centres. Activity types are not maintained for these WCs as our WCs are department wise (different rate persons assigned in one WC). So cost is not getting planned at the acivity level.

When we book time for the persons assigned, we get actual cost at activity level. I can plan cost for the wbs element through CJR2. Note: we have only one internal activity for one wbs element here (Exclusive WBSe for man hr booking)

So if I use Cost proportional method, I will not get Plan/ Actual POC at activity level. But I have planned cost (Through CJR2) at the WBS level and also actual cost from the activity. so can I get the EVA at the WBS level in this case. e.g is given below.

Object -

Actual method

WBS -

Cost prop -

Can I have the above senario working for EVA.

for external/ service activities, I can very well carry out EVA as my cost is planned in the activity.
