In very simple words,

Business System are used when the system physically exist. U know the physical address to aceess that system. e.g. For an SAP R/3 system u should create a Business System.

Business Service are used when the system has no physical existence. e.g. If u r using HTTP sender, then HTTP client in itself is not a separate system. In such cases we would go for Business Service.

In case you have full technical inforamataion abt the Service with which you are establishing the communication then we go with Business Service.

In case of B2B across firewalls with your partner then we have to define Party and ,if the party gives partial technical information of the service then we define it in business system.

Business System: Is a logical representation of a Technical system. Business System is nothing but Technical System plus Client. So if my techical system say SRM has n clients, I can declare n Business Systems for SRM. Business Systems entails the Technical System which further entails all the techical parameters that are required to connect to particular system like port, message server etc. Using Business System saves you time from inputing all techical details and client number each time you need XI to talk to them

Business Service: is a abstract entity (System). It sometimes happens that your SAP system needs to communicate with third party who hasn't published their landscape. So they just provide you their interfaces. For such systems you define a Business Service (Ex for a FTP server). You might also create a 3rd party business system instead of a business service, they both mean the same. But it's mandatory to create a Business System for any SAP system, you can't create a Business Service for them.

Party: Party is used for B2B communications, it is generally dedicated for a particular company. You might give the party name as the company name with which your XI communcates.

Service without party: is used for all A2A communications within a company.

Raju.

Hi

Business System

1. Business systems are logical systems, which function as senders or receivers within XI. Business systems can be SAP systems or third-party systems. Depending on the associated technical system.

2. Business Systems should be mandatory used when dealing with Idoc's and Proxies .

Business Service

1. Business Service requires manual adding on Inbound and Outbound Interfaces, Business Systems do not.

2. Business Services are maintained across environments and so, their names cannot be changed. Business Systems names can be changed across environments by providing SLD level transport targets.

3.In the Business Services we cannot maintain the Group and Targets in SLD. For Ease in transporting your ID/Configuration objects Groups and Targets are used in SLD for Business Systems.

4.Business Service has no SLD Entries and No Assigned Products and SWCV's

Hey,

First what are Business Sytems >?

They are logical senders and receivers of a message that exchange message using sap xi and that are entered in the SLD.

Prerequiste for a Business system is that it has to be your Landscape Scape.

Now how to address the system that are not in your Landscape -> so you can't have any entry for them in the sld too.

To address the system that are not present in your landscape you define a business service.

Ex: Consider a B2B environment where your organization which has a R/3 implementation has to communicate with a business partner. Then how to address the partner system >? That where we define a business service.

Cheers,

Hi,

Business System

Business system is a logical system, and there is an importance on physical existence of the system. Also SLD entry is required.

It is generally used for SAP applications, this is just a general prinicple followed but not mandatory.

Business Service

You use a Business Service, when you do not have the System details of the the partner system to which you want to communicate. i.e. you have not configured the partner system in SLD.

Business Service is an Absract Unit with Sender and Receiver Interfaces,In this case you need to explicitly add the message interfaces while doing configuration in ID. It is generally used for NON-SAP applications, this is just a general prinicple followed but not mandatory.

This might help you
