Is APO R/3?

Dear Experts,

Is SAP APO a R/3?

I know it is not a R/3 system but it has 3 layers (presentation, application and database). Then y can't v call it as a R/3 system. Even though it sounds as a basic question pls clarify my doubt.

Even though R/3 name came due to the 3-tier architecture (Presentation, Application, database), the product SAP R/3 is an ERP package. APO is also having 3 tier architecture. But is another product from SAP mainly into the “Advanced planning & Optimization functionality”. Some of the functionality APO supports is also exists in SAP R/3. But APO has more wide scope and capability. I suggest you read the FAQ on this forum to get some idea about APO.

R/3 stands for Release 3 and not for 3-tier architecture

R/3 does stand for 3-tier Architecture & not Releases!

<a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_scm50/helpdata/en/7e/63fc37004d0a1ee10000009b38f8cf/frameset.htm">APO</a> is now part of the SCM Business suite in SAP.. like already mentioned above it is just another SAP system albeit with specific functionality.. unlike ERP6( aka ERP2005 ) that has the core components ie Financials, Logistics& Human Resources etc.

Thanks for correcting me .. I was under the impression that it ( R ) stands for Release . I just read that 'R' stands for Real Time data processing .. Learned something new ..
