Additional Characteristics in SNP

Hi

We have a m:n relationship between sales organization and locations in our network. Although we want to be able to do supply planning at location levels, we also want to be able to make some decisions based on inventory at sales org level. Does APO SNP support adding new user-defined characteristics at all? Will descriptive characteristics work in this situation? We are on APO 4.1

Ok, here is the link for documentation 4.1, this link confirms that it is not possible to add user-defined characteristics for SNP.

Using Descriptive char (possible since 3.1) is a possibility though it is mainly used at Customer level

Descriptive char are used for a NOT pure MTS scenario

you can try to manipulate this for your purpose

Also there would be a large number of entries in the live cache depending on the number of locations and Sales orgs

You enter the char for sales org in a consumption group. This consumption group can then be assigned to product and to release profiles.

There are also separate heuristics for descriptive characterisitics

Another way of doing this is to create a new characterisitic in DP that is a combination of your Location+Sales org and releasing that to SNP in a differnt version while you release location based Demand in the regular version. You can do the sales org related calculations there and try to match the results of both versions

"Inventory at sales org level" can't be solved using descriptive characteristics. If you want to take care of the Inventory, you will have to model "sales org " as locations and maintain transportation lanes from "Location" to "sales org". Another possibility might be to sort the "inventory" issue in APO DP

Unfortunatelly, it is not possible to add new user-defined characteristics.

This is a copy of documentation for SCM-SNP 5.0: The use of additional characteristics for Supply Network Planning is not supported. For an example of a master planning object structure with the correct characteristics for Supply Network Planning, see 9ASNPBAS.
