Hi,

the current basis version is 7.0 (or even 7.1)

What formerly was called basis is now called SAP NetWeveaver Application Server (ABAP)

R/3 is an SAP system with many business applications running in it, e.g. Financials, Controlling, Logistics, and so on

Technically the follow up release of SAP R/3 Enterprise (4.7) is SAP ECC 6.0

So if you do an upgrade from R/3 4.6C you would go to ECC 6.0

From the license point of view the follow up from R/3 is SAP ERP (6.0).

The basis for SAP ECC 6.0 is SAP NetWeaver AS 7.0

Still many customers use R/3 4.6C but an upgrade wave to ECC 6.0 is going on.

Regards,

Sascha

Hai, Madhu wins2.

Answer for your first question.

R/3 is the comprehensive set of integrated business applications from SAP, the German company that states it is the market and technology leader in business application software. R/3 replaced an earlier system, R/2, which is still in use. R/3 uses the client/server model and provides the ability to store, retrieve, analyze, and process in many ways corporate data for financial analysis, production operation, human resource management, and most other business processes.

A recent release of R/3 makes it possible to get to the R/3 database and applications through Internet access and Web browsers. A sd ales representative can initiate the workflow for a sales order by filling out an electronic form on a laptop that will be "translated" into input for the R/3 system. Other interfaces such as Lotus Notes can also be used. The Web implementation adheres to the Workflow Client API standard of the Workflow Management Coalition (WfMC).

A more recent version of R/3 adds features designed to speed product delivery by helping to manage the supply chain.

Insufficient data in the second question.

SAP Basis:

- Provides the runtime environment for all SAP applications

- Optimally embeds the application in the system environment

- Defines a stable architecture framework for system enhancements

- Contains the tools for administering the entire system

- Allows the distribution of resources and system components

- Provides interfaces for decentralized system parts and external products.

An R/3 instance is a group of R/3 services that are started and stopped as a unit (by an R/3 dispatcher) and have a common instance profile. The name of an R/3 instance is composed of letters standing for the relevant services, and an instance number which is unique for each computer. The services may be D, V, E, B, M, G, or S, which respectively stand for dialogue, update, enqueue, background, message, gateway, and spool services.
