what is System Alias? what is use & advantage of it ,can any one explane me in details.

what is System Alias? what is use & advantage of it ,can any one explane me in details.

Aliases are names that system administrators define for each system they create so that portal components can reference these systems. They are a means of retrieving the information stored on database servers without having to know the name of the server.

WE use system to acces the contents from the back end system.

since the user wants the content from the back end system he needs to be mapped in the back end system(repository), so we create an user say xyz and with password abc in the backend system( which has alias say def) .

now you create an user say lmn who wants to access the data from back system but he is not mapped in the backend system ie., not authorized.

in order to access data from back end system he needs to be mapped so

with the help of alias name of system say

def along with mapped user id as xyz and mapped password as abc you can access the data from back end system
