Hello,

here is the new link:

http://sapmats-de.sap-ag.de/download/download.cgi?id=0E7W27VJ3T3GQ3J60H5EKNCXX1PPOCGJKST1NE2RZYB2L6X...

It can take a few minutes until it is available.

Please copy the files into your <IndependendProgramsPath>\pgm folder.

For example on my host it is c:\sapdb\programs\pgm

Please rename the existent files before you extract the files to avoid that they will be overwritten.

After that try "x_server start" again.

When the problem still exists please copy again the

content of x_server.prt into this case.

Thanks, Stefan

I tried to download the new xserver using the link. I get the message that the link is now valid. Can you please provide me the new link?

Thanks,

Sudhir

Hello Klaus,

my last answer was not correct.

The developer didn't increased the Callstack for sapni.dll

to get more information. He increased the Stacksize for that dll. Due to this the x_server is now able to start.

When x_server starts it loads the sapni.dll which is not a database library. It is a general SAP dll.

This library is loaded during startup. Then it processes some code which we ( the database development ) don't know.

But it seems that on your server it processes that much code that the Stack becames to big. That is the reason for the crash. One reason for processing that much could could be some special settings on your server.

We will keep this change we made for your special x_server for the next database version.

So you can work now with this x_server now.

Best regards, Stefan

Hallo Stefan,

thank you very much for your help !!

Without it the installation would not have worked.

Hello Stefan,

I have the same problem and am wondering if you could make the "sapni.dll" available again (since the link has expired).

Andreas

Hello Klaus,

here is now the next x_server which should write

out further trace from the sapni.dll.

You can download it from here:

http://sapmats-de.sap-ag.de/download/download.cgi?id=JXTNG0DOKJBBXAI0F6OJMK3JDXWG1XKZKGY87FHA8GRJWCV...

Please install it like the last one.

Rename all files within c:\sapdb\programs\pgm and unpack

the zip file into that directory.

After that start the x_server and paste the content of

x_server.prt into this case.

Thanks, Stefan

Hallo Stefan,

big surprise: the version of the xserver you made available for download on April 1st (the one that is supposed to write further trace from sapni.dll) starts without any problem, as you see on the xserver.prt-file:

Meanwhile some information on the server:

It had an R/3-System (6.20) installed previously, which I deinstalled (and also maxdb/sapdb) before I made any attempt to install 6.40 (I cleaned off all registry entries with respect to the old installation using RegClean and afterwards inspected the registry manually for any entries - there were none). There is no saprouter installed, and no other db-System (except MS Access, which isn't realy, well ...).

I am somewhat confused now ! (or is that a first-of-april joke)

Hello,

it seems that the reason for the crash is a

Stack Overflow in sapni.dll. It allocates to

much memory.

We will try to build a new x_server which will write out more Trace from that dll.

In the meantime.

Is there something special on that server ?

How many R/3 Systems are on that host ?

Is there a Saprouter on that host ?

Best regards, Stefan

Meanwhile some information on the server:

It had an R/3-System (6.20) installed previously, which I deinstalled (and also maxdb/sapdb) before I made any attempt to install 6.40 (I cleaned off all registry entries with respect to the old installation using RegClean and afterwards inspected the registry manually for any entries - there were none). There is no saprouter installed, and no other db-System (except MS Access, which isn't realy, well ...).

I am somewhat confused now ! (or is that a first-of-april joke)

Klaus

Hello,

I have uploaded a special debug x_server.

It should write out a the callstack into the x_server.prt.

You can download it from here:

http://sapmats-de.sap-ag.de/download/download.cgi?id=HJH2H468NWHAA9GWR0QP8O5OV5KXDQVU8P1DGZZLJNM90BA...

You can install it like you did it with the last version.

Just rename all files in \sapdb\programs\pgm.

After that extract the files to this folder and run

"x_server install" in a dos-box.

Please send again the complete content of x_server.prt

Thanks, Stefan

Hello,

I hae uploaded a zip file with the latest version of the

x_server. You can download it from here:

http://sapmats-de.sap-ag.de/download/download.cgi?id=GDXL22E5ER07F3XT07EP76R1XEPJE7JRG0XT168EZD85UM4...

Please copy the files into your <IndependendProgramsPath>\pgm folder.

For example on my host it is c:\sapdb\programs\pgm

Please rename the existent files before you extract the files to avoid that they will be overwritten.

After that run the command "x_server remove" and

"x_server install" to register the executables.

After that try "x_server start" again.

When the problem still exists please copy again the

content of x_server.prt into this case.

Thanks, Stefan

I did as requested, unfortunately the problem still remains, so here is the contents of x_server.prt:

Did you have installed SAP DB before?

Then please deinstall the whole thing with the sneak preview.

I did deinstall all previous instances of sapdb(maxdb), deinstalled maxdb from the software installation menu and removed all additional registry entries manually, and then restarted the Sneak Preview 6.40 installation from scratch: Same error !

As now you are in the middle of a messed up system please deinstall and check if all services are deinstalled and registry also has no entries.

...when will SAP finally realize their responsibilities as an international software vendor and start using English for their error messages...?

Hi Trond,

partly theses messages are from the OS and that seems to be a german version of windows.

Second, this is still under development and not necessarily on the latest issue of internationalization.

Your remark with respect to Win Xp is correct (german version). To get closer to solve the problem, I deinstalled

the sneak preview 6.40 and maxdb, cleaned the registry via

RegClean from all corresponding entries, downloaded MaxDB/sapdb version 7.5.00.08 for Windows and installed it. The installation script reported successful installation, no problems. When I started the xserver (also when creating the test database TST via create_demo_db.cmd) the xserver closes down with error 18353 written to ...\sdb\data\wrk\xserver_...prt. On my first search of the error database I could not find any corresponding entry.

Klaus,

I would check if there is anything running on maxdb's port.

Hallo Benny,

great idea with the port, but there nothing running that uses the maxdb port, and the firewall is not the problem, either.

Got another idea ?

Hello,

maybe this helps:

- Open a dos-box and run the command "x_server start"

The x_server executable is placed in the directory

\sapdb\programs\bin

- To stop it run "x_server stop"

- To reinstall it you can run

"x_server remove"

"x_server install"

- There is also a logfile of the x_server in the directory

\sapdb\data\wrk\x_server.prt

Please check its content.

- Please check also the event viewer.

Hope that helps.

Great to have you here Stefan, I was running out of ideas...

Just read my last post: that is exactly what I did, I can remove and install the xserver with the >x_server command without any problem, just the start produces the same error giving entries in the application system log and the file

...\sdb\data\wrk\xserver_<machine name>.prt with error numbers 19751, 19747 and 18353, no further explanation, whatever this means, I cannot interpret. I will now start the machine in save mode without network and see what happens.

Regards and thank you for your time and effort.

Hello,

you can try to start x_server this way:

"x_server -D8"

Even if it aborts during startup you might get more information when x_server gets a problem.

Best regards, Stefan

I did exactly as you suggested and got:

Have you tried starting the xServer manually (via Control panel -> Services)? Then resuming the installation?

Former Member

When I start the xserver service manually, i am getting the

I tried to resume the installation after changing the start type of the xserver service from "automatic" to "manual", the result re-

mains unchanged (same error message)
