hi
determines which orders have unconfirmed quantities by customer or material
sort the orders according to priority
assign available stock to outstanding orders or reassign confirmed quantities to high-profile orders
Rescheduling
updates the orders with the results of the availability check
can be used to manage the distribution of available inventory when demand is greater than supply
Best if run in batch mode, rescheduling can be very time consuming

A sales order which cannot be delivered in the Requested Delivery date is called as Backorder. The availability may be confirmed on this at later point of time when the confirmed availabilities are rescheduled in V_V2 tcode based on the stock availability at that time.
You can go to the following links to know more about the same.

hi Vamsi
Back Orders are those sales orders which can not be confirmed becuz 1 of the 2 reasons:
1) either full delivery quantity is not confirmed
2) or the requested delivery date can not be confirmed
