Could I use Oracle client software of 8.1.7 instead of 8.0.6?

Hello,

Does anyone know about Oracle client software?

Could I use the upper version of client software that

R/3 kernel needs in the following case?

There is a following R/3 environment:

I have to upgrade Oracle from 8.0.5 to 8.1.7.

- R/3 3.1H Release

- R/3 3.1I_Y2K Kernel

- Oracle 8.0.5.2

- Digital UNIX 4.0F

- Standalone DB/CI Server

The 3.1I_Y2K kernel(disp+work) needs Oracle client 7.3.4 now.

-

R/3 kernel information

-

kernel release 31I

database library ora OCI_73400

With upgrading Oracle, at the same time,

I have to upgrade R/3 kernel to 31_COM.

This R/3 3.1I_COM kernel(disp+work) needs Oracle client 8.0.6.

kernel release 31I

kernel make variant 31I_COM

extended support

named 31I_COM in SAP release notes

database library ora OCI_80600

The above 3.1I_COM kernel says that 3.1I_COM kernel needs 8.0.6.

I will try to find the CD including the Oracle client software.

But I have no confidence to pick out it because the software was

very old and I cannot download it from SAP marketplace now.

Could I use the upper version of Oracle client software

such as 8.1.7 instead of 8.0.6?

(I can download the 8.1.7 client software from SAP Marketplace now.)

Best regards,

you better stick with SAP recommendations. it might work with a newer client but if you get problems, SAP will ask you to downgrade.

anyway, you need a SAP R/3 upgrade, your version has been out of support since 1998!
