I want to copy the database from 1 server to another, but the files size is too large. I am concern with the log file which has grown to 5.5 GB.
1. Is there any way to shrunk it and how?
2. Can I copy the files directly from 1 server to another and attached the database directly like the same in SQL Server ( sp_attach and sp_deattach)?
3. Do I need to install the software ( MAX DB) and then create a database and then restore from the 1st backup?
Pls suggest.

Hi Prashant,
1. There is no way to shrink your logvolume(s). You will need to reinstall the database with the new sizes.
2, 3. Can I copy the files directly from 1 server to another and attached the database directly like the same in SQL Server ( sp_attach and sp_deattach)?
-- This is possible, but strongly recommended against by SAP. We recommend that you follow this procedure: install the MAXDB software, create an instance, and then restore from the source backup. SAP note 129352 explains the procedure.
Thanks,
Ashwath
