Hi all,
Our SAP version is 4.7E and OS is HP-UX.kernel 640 patch level 121.
At the time of implementation they created two SAP instances and database instance in one system and one another application instance in another separate server. Now I want to do kernel upgradation.
1.How can I proceed and how can I find which files are shared and after kernel upgradation how can I create the link or sharing?
2.What is ctrun directort in /exe directory?
3.If any one use old kernel from a longtime how it affects production server?
Please kindly help on this.
Regards,
Nani prakash
UNIX Kernel Replacement
· 1. Download the two necessary archives - SAPEXE.SAR and SAPEXEDB.SAR - from SAP MarketPlace.
· There files can be found at http://service.sap.com/patches.
· Be careful that your Basis level is high enough to use the patch level of the files you download. For example, if your SAP instance is on Basis level 39 and the description of one of the SAPEXE.SAR files is Stack 42, you need to download a SAPEXE.SAR of a lower level.
2. Once both files have been downloaded, log on to the UNIX server as /SYS/exe/run to restore your old kernel.

Hi Nani
The DB instance and 2 SAP instance on one host should have a common
/sapmnt/SID/exe
and the other Application server on the other host will have a separate
/sapmnt/SID/exe
U need to replace the kernels separately.

Hi Nani,
CTRUN is used by SAPCPE in order to check for newer versions of the kernel files. For a good overview on using SAPCPE and also on how to implement new kernels, please read:
