Knowledge Warehouse Authorizations in Solution Manager

Hello everyone!

I am just a beginner in Knowledge Warehouse area. I will very appreciate if somebody can help me in my problem.

I have a deal with Internal Knowledge Warehouse in Solution Manager. I want to give the authorization to work with only some documents in the project or in the roadmap for users or project members.

I am interested in the authorization concept in Knowledge Warehouse. I know that there are S_IWB, S_IWB_ADM, S_IWB_ATTR authorization objects. There I can define fields like Folder group, Enhancement, Document Area.

The most interesting thing for me is that I can define the folder of documents. There are different predefined or automatically created folders in Knowledge Warehouse likeSOLAR00, TEMPLATES, <Project ID>, ROLES2 and so on. Moreover, I’ve found that I can create the folders myself.

There is a question: How should I define the folder where I want to store the documents which are created, for example, in roadmaps, in project documentation tab and so on while I am creating the implementation project in Solution Manager in transaction RMMAIN, RMAUTH, SOLAR01(business blueprint).

Thank you

Olya

Thank you for help.

However, I have read it before, there are just a theory about Knowledge Warehouse and Concepts about it.

I still don't know how to correlate the documents on the Project Documentation Tab in SOLAR01 transaction in Solution Manager system with all this theory, how can I define the folder where i want this documentation to store....

You partially gave the answer to your question by yourself. The Solution Manager manages the usage of the Knowledge Warehouse by its own means, i.e. it stores all content in the appropriate folder groups. An example: There will be created (as you know) a folder group for each project. If you then create a document in any of the transactions SOLAR01, SOLAR02, RMMAIN it will be stored there and will be retrieved by its object-ID (called LOIO, you see it if you generate the URL in the attribute dialog). On the other hand, all the entries in the Roadmap and the project stucture are just like pointers via this object-ID to the KW-object, and these entries are solely maintained within the respective Solution Manager programs.

I hope these comments helps you a bit in understanding how Solution Manager interfaces to the KW.

Dear, Wolfgang Dieler,

I very appreciate for your answer.

You told so detailed things which really help me to develop my mind in the KW direction

I generated the URL of the documents (why haven’t I done it before) and it really explained the idea of the document storage.

Speaking about the authorization question, in the book called as “SAP® Solution Manager” by SAP PRESS in 2007 I’ve found the phrase which can’t leave me alone in peace. There it is:

“… You assign authorizations for documents in SAP Solution Manager for individual folder groups, a special folder attribute. When you create projects, solutions, or roadmaps, the system automatically creates folder groups by default with the same name as the respective folder. You can then assign the corresponding folder groups directly when you assign authorizations.

This method means that you

create folders and folder groups manually only in special cases

.

For instance, if you want to limit access to certain documents to a very restricted group of people, you can store them in separate folders and folder groups and assign them explicitly to the relevant users

...”

So we can create the folders ourselves and then assign them to the users… But how can we define the folder for documents (for instance, in SOLAR01 transaction) if those documents are automatically saved in predefined folders….
