QA refresh 4.6D EBCDIC

Former Member

Hi folks,

I want to do a homogrneous system copy from production to QA system. Both the systems are 4.6D kernel EBCDIC. I want to know which SAP document to follow. Please let me know the prerequisites and post refresh activities that are to be taken care of. The PRD system is 120 GB while the QA system database is 80 Gb. Any challenges/risks that may evolve in this process?

How much free space should be available on both the ASPs(1 ASP is for system and 2nd ASP is for journals).

Thanks! for all the valuable help being provided in this forum.

Regards,

Sai R

Volker,

I followed the Easy Homo. copy document sent by you and am glad that everything went well...Thanks a lot.

System work fine but only one issue is that when deleting clients it takes days for deletion. I have 2 unwanted clients to delete. I observed long time is being taken for the first client to delete. I deleted the first client after deleting SQL packages and it went fairly well. But deleting the second client may take days. I cancelled the client deletion, deleted SQL packages and started client deletion again...but of no use. Its 10 Hours and only 30% of the stuff is delete. It's taking more than an hour to delete 3-4 tables. What's wrong..how do

Same is the case when I copy a client. Please suggest as how to rectify this...rest the system performance is fair enough.

Hi Sai,

How large is the client? 30-hour client copy is not a surprise for big client copy. Please review Note 67205 and 489690 if you haven't.

Did you try the parallel way of client copy? And I remember that long time ago some folk got better performance of client copy when moving the journal receivers to ASP1 (with more disk arms and more write-cache on the disk controllers).

Would you consider data archiving or TDMS to trim the data?

Best regards,

Victor

Initially, the client deletion was slow but later this speeded up.

Hi Say,

the free space needed is a bit more than the stuff on the PRD site now. You have to delete the QA database anyway ...

The official documentation is possible, but pretty complicated if you do have a QA system already and ONLY want to replace it with fresh PRD data.

If you drop me a mail I could hand over an a bit easier docu for just this purpose ...

Volker,

With reference to your document for Homogeneous copy, I want to understand how to execute the following step (first line on page 19):

"Change the Batch- & Spool-WPs down to 0 before starting SAP"

Can you please explain? Thanks for all your support.

Check

http://service.sap.com/systemcopy

--> Media Library

--> R/3 Homogeneous System Copy 4.6D

There you will find the procedure and the relevant notes to look for.
