hi,
What is meant by status variants, layout variants and what do we do in SHDO transaction ?
Are there any other variants also and what is their relevance and application ?
regards,
sharma
Dear Sharma,
Variant:
Group of selection criteria that has been saved. It could be a Layout variant, transaction variant, report variant etc.
<b>Layout Variant:</b>
Variant Created for Layouts. For example how many columns do you want to display and in what order etc.
<b>Transaction Variant:</b>
Variant created for transactions. You would specify what are all the fields to be displayed and in what status (ie. display, required entry, or optional etc.). Also, what fields to be hidden (suppressed).

In the SAP Reference IMG, you can create transaction variants. Choose Basis Components -> Application Personalization -> Tailoring of Application Transactions -> Configure Transaction-Related Display Values for Fields (Transaction SHD0). Transaction variants allow you to preset values for fields in a transaction, set field attributes, or hide entire screens.
To execute a transaction variant, you define a variant transaction using the Transaction Maintenance transaction (SE93).
Once you have entered a transaction code and short description, choose transaction type Transaction with variant (Variant transaction).
To define a variant, enter the name of the transaction and the name of the variant. You can then use the new transaction code to start the special variant of the transaction.
Hope this will help.

Naveen.

Dear Vijay,
1 and 2 can either be ABAP or Functional Consultant. 3 for Functional Consultant.
1. Report Variant : End user would create this for themselves or you can create few default ones. It is nothing but entering the data in the selection screen of the report and saving it as a variant so that you do not have to enter the same criterion everytime. You would just need to select the variant.
It is useful only if user has to enter values for more fields (same set of data every time) in the selection screen.
2. Layout Variant : You would use this if you want to change the layout of standard report/transction etc. In this you would specify the order of the fields etc.
3. Screen Variant : You would need to know about this. You can make fields display only, required entry, optional, suppressed etc. with this. For example in VA01 you want to make a particular field as mandatory etc. You would do this in Transction SHD0. Read the above post.

Naveen.
Hi,
Transaction variant is an alternative to a transaction in the SAP System. A transaction variant consists of a number of screen variants.
You can create different variants for the same transaction. This enables you to simplify transaction flows by:
Preassigning values to fields
Suppressing and changing the readiness for input of fields
Suppressing whole screens
