When do we use SAP NetWeaver Portal (EP) Content for MDM 5.5 SP5 ,MDM API??

MDM Gurus,

Why do we need MDM API as SAP has provided Business content for MDM.

If the above question is wrong.Can anybody Please explain the usage by giving the Business scenarios.

The MDM portal content delivered by SAP provides a set of highly-configurable, versatile iViews which can be set up in a very short time to provide a graphical interface to an MDM repository.

In the cases where a customer wants functionality beyond the scope of the iViews, or would like to develop their own custom application, not necessarily portal-based, then they have the option of using the MDM API's which provide a full programmatic interface to MDM repositories.

Hi Hari,

Since the API's provide a programmatic interface to the underlying repository, the business scenarios can be virturally anything you want - from building your own custom websites, creating web services, building Web Dynpro applications that connect to a reposiroty, or creating desktop applications (Windows or Java). You are limited only by your imagination.
