Can somebody tell me which is the maximum number of idocs that a collect step of a BPM can store?

There is no limit as such ...however ..in order to have multiple idocs ...use extended interface determination instead of BPM.That way you can lower the load on the system.Besides to improve performance ...
Rather then having one big file ...have smaller files...with equal no of records ...
I am able to push ..600,000 records ..from xi in small files of size under 1 mb ..and records not more then 2000 in a matter of 1 hr..rest depends on your sizing as well.

I think you dont have any limit for this. But this all depends upon your hardware and sizing. We have even collected 100 Idocs at a time. Also if you are using BPM only for collecting Idocs then you dont BPM for that. Please see this weblog:
