<i>SAP NetWeaver</i> is the open integration and application platform that aligns people, information, and processes. SAP NetWeaver contains the tools and infrastructure to develop new applications as well as to adapt and migrate existing ones.

Advantages of SAP NetWeaver

http://www.thespot4sap.com/Articles/SAP_Netweaver_Advantages_and_Conclusion.asp

<i>Exchange Infrastructure</i>- <i>XI</i> can be used as a Middle ware Engine to communicate in a distributed environment. The heart of XI is Integration Engine that is used for integrating different technologies using Standard Messaging techniques e.g XML. Different mapping tools are available for mapping the distributed system which can be mapped without having any expertise of Technical Details. As a real world example, XI can be helpful in integrating different banks with SAP R/3. XI Engine also support previous releases of SAP R/3 like 4.6C and have many more adapters to communicate with legacy systems.

Exchange Infrastructure in SAP NetWeaver (SAP NetWeaver XI) enables you to implement cross-system processes. It enables you to connect systems from different vendors (non-SAP and SAP) in different versions and implemented in different programming languages (Java, ABAP, and so on) to each other.

hi,

>>Could u plz advise what all comes in Netweaver. I guess XI & WAS & how much of it is the programming part.

NetWeaver is the basis for all SAP solutions on a given hardware and it covers

-> people integration - EP (here you hv no. of tools like WebDynpro-Java, WebDynpro-Abap, JDI etc. - mostly programming )

-> process integration - XI (here you can work either with java or ABAP, programming part wl be there tht depends on the scenarios)

-> information integration - BW

you can chose one out of the above to get into NW.

Hi Mehra,

Netweaver is a ocean in its own and there so many technologies and modules which make up this gaint enterprise solution.

You can get into SAP Exchange Infrastructure: if you have basic knowledge of java, ABAP, XML.

or Enterprise Portal (EP): if you are good in J2EE.

or Netweaver Adminstrator: if you want to get into admin side of things.

these are a few to mention: the you could also do:

MDM (Master Data Management),

Business Warehousing (BW),

ABAP Workbench,

Knowledge Management(KM)

SAP PI Maybe this is a good start:

This might help you

Further, this thread deals with everything that is needed for a starter on XI. Do check them out,

And after you are done with the documentation probably you can go through this scenario,

Also check the following threads which might help you a little more,
