Assignment of objects to WBS or Activities

Hi,

When we can associate PS texts or Milestone directly to WBS Elements, then why we need Activity ?

Hi,

We can have a project structure without activities also. It depends on your business scenario. If it demands to have a detailed analysis of project we go for activities. If you need to define a process, you will have to go for activiy.

For eg, you can very well have a wbs named construction and assign all cost, docs, milestones related to construction to this wbs. But if have certain landmarks events in construction which you need to monitor in detail you can have a seperate activity for the same and further milestone if required.Further if the process of construction consists of 1. land acquisition & earth work 2. RCC structure 3. concrete and finishing etc. To monitor this process in detail you will have to go for activity.

In addition to Shrikants reply, we can not assign materials to WBS directly, need to have activity attached to WBS in the structure for the same.
