hi,

>>i have to prepare a presention to promot xi to the client.

If one of the integrating system invovles with SAP, then it is the best bet to go for XI than any other product.

In additon to that XI has its own advantages as specified in the previous post.

regards

Hi Prashant,

XI is a middleware like many others. It is well suited for connecting SAP systems with each other and with non-SAP.If your focus is not on SAP systems, other solutions might be a better choice today. SAP XI provides an integrated workflow engine that allows to define adapters to non-XML-protocols and mappings to convert data content from source to target.

Any fully mature middleware should provide these three layers.

1. An independent Message Queue

2. A data consolidator and mapping engine

3. Workflow processor.

<b>Advantages</b>

There are lots of advantages. To list a few :

1 Integration with SAP products & components.

2 Iron clad data security as expected from any SAP product.

3 Standards based - XML, XSD, Xpath etc

4 Ability to communicate with other messaging systems/products.

5 Business Process Management

6 Synchronous & Asynchronous communication

7 Leverage existing SAP & ABAP skillset.

8 Mapping etc possible to accomplish in Java. Platform independent Java components.

9 Java & .Net support.

<b>Disadvantages</b>

XI is lacking full-fledged Message Queue compared to other established Middleware products.

Currently, SAP XI does not have the features like IBM Websphere, Seeburger or TIBCO.

XI is not stable....

costly

Other cost effective middleware are there like TIBCO...

Check the XI Wiki Page for advantages and disadvantages:

Hi Prashant,

Adv:

1. Simplified Upgrade of SAP Solutions

2. Versionising & modification management for integration meta data

4.Comes with Pre-delivered Content

5. Is suits for heterogenous Integration landscape

6. Is interoperable based on open standards

DisAdv

1. High Total Cost of Ownership

2. Licensing

anyone can Correct me if i'm wrong ......

This might help you.......

Hi,

As it is a client presentation my sugges will be a mix of both business and technical jargon. Most of the technical aspects have been covered. For example how it lowers total cost of ownership, Complete Solution Life cycle management. If you organization has done any implementation then talk with the TL/PL who was reposible for it. Find out information abt how did the other client realised benefits from the implementation and neva forget to put in the numbers interm of cost saving etc..... at the end that what they are alwayz bothered about. Hope itz usfull.

Cheers,

Hi Prashant,

I think u try to get the points what is XI and WHY XI...

I hav no idea about the product Ensemble. (Maybe u will get the other points here also if some1 hav idea on it). You can grab the advantages and maybe u can come up with the comparison points urself if u know Ensemble.

XI Advantages over other Middleware Tools

https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/wiki?path=/pages/viewpage.action&pageid=16263

Some points of XI:

  • Synchronous & Asynchronous communication possible.

  • Easy Integration with SAP products & components (RFC, IDOC, Proxy).

  • Data security as expected from any SAP product.

  • Standards based - XML, XSD, Xpath etc

  • Ability to communicate with other messaging systems/products.

  • Business Process Management

  • Complex processes for communication possible instead of only sending and receiving (business process management) (connect e.g. asynchronous and synchronous steps, define complex communication scenarios)

  • Mapping etc possible to accomplish in Java. Platform independent Java components.

  • Java & .Net support.

  • Big range of adapters for different technologies / tools (SOAP, Mail, JDBC, CDIX...)available in standard or offered by other companies (EDI e.g. by Seeburger).

  • Process functionalities inside XI to modify content in the communication channel on own defined rules fpr business purposes.

  • Central monitoring for data communication for all your communication between different systems.

  • And the marketing issue: SAP and its partners provide high volume of development capabilities to make XI always up-to-date for new requirements

Chk out the comparison done here on SAP XI over Business connector

Also refer: a lotta details given here.

Hope this was helpful.. n all the best ...
