ABAP vs. Java Netweaver

when deciding between ABAP or Java instalation, what should be taken into consideration? What are limitations and advantages of the two stacks?

I didn't express myself properly. What I actually meant was what are the advantages / disatvantages of ABAP Webdynpro and Java Webdynpro technology and when it is better to use one or the other.
