Backup: store your database on a disk/tape/whatever, to be able to restore it e.g. after a media failure, disk crash, user error etc. (I assume you are talking about Oracle backups)
Restore: restore your database after a data loss. data loss might be due to a disk crash, a software error or a user error.
System copy: copy a complete SAP system from <SID1> to <SID2>, e.g. copy a productive system to a test system to do upgrade test / performance test without destroying the productive data. You can use a backup/restore method for a system copy, if source and target system run on the same platform (backup <SID1> on the source system, restore it and rename it to <SID2> on the target system)
Best regards,
Elmar.
