Hello Guru's

Few Days Back I am facing the following problem in the Production Server

BR0051I BRBACKUP 7.00 (11)

BR0055I Start of database backup: bdvnyeil.dbv 2007-06-23 20.00.59

BR0477I Oracle pfile /oracle/A11/102_64/dbs/initA11.ora created from spfile /oracle/A11/102_64/dbs/spfileA11.ora

BR0068E SAP system is running or SAP user is connected to database A11 - database cannot be shut down

BR1025I Please shut down SAP system first or use the 'offline_force' option

BR0056I End of database backup: bdvnyeil.dbv 2007-06-23 20.01.02

BR0280I BRBACKUP time stamp: 2007-06-23 20.01.02

BR0054I BRBACKUP terminated with errors

After this i have done these following steps

in init(SID).sap file , i have updated the parameter backup_type = offline to offline _force / online

1) offline_force" -> it will shutdown the db even with SAP running

2) online", it will not shutdown the DB.

then i restart my SAP System

i want to take a small guidance from you all, i am follwing the right steps, after performing these steps in my server verifyDB is going to run without any errors,

orelse please guide me if i am wrong

Thanks & Regards

Shishir

steps look fine, except that restarting your SAP system was not needed.

also, you know that SAP won't be accessible while verifyDB will be running because DB will be down?

you will also see tons of connection tried in SM21 after verifyDB has ended. This is norma.

I hope this helps.

In continuation to Eric's response ,

In the system log you will have a

Work process is in reconnect status when the DB is shutting down and

Work process is left reconnect status when the DB came up after the offline backup.

SAP is not stopped during the offline backup is because the information in the buffers of the SAP System is not lost, which implies better performance immediately following the database startup
