Commitment Dates in the Sales Order

In the schedule line screen for the sales order items there are fields for the committed quantities

and dates.

In a normal sales order, the commitment date results from the first availability check. If a second

availability check results in different data, you can compare the two to see if the availability

situation for a sales order item has improved or deteriorated.

The commitment date is calculated using the delivery time in contract releases with a delivery

time, or in sales orders that refer to a quotation with a delivery time. The committed quantity is

calculated from the agreed delivery time or from the confirmed quantity, according to the settings

you made in Customizing. If you change the material, quantity, delivery date or delivery time in

the sales order, the system recalculates the committed quantity.

You can configure how the commitment dates are calculated in Customizing for the sales

document type in the Commitment date field. You can choose one of the following rules:

_ A: Consider agreed delivery time only

Here, all the required schedule lines are committed for the date that follows the delivery

time at the distance agreed on when you entered the sales order. If the customer

requires a later date, this date is confirmed. The commitment situation does not influence

the calculations and if you don’t specify a delivery time, the system does not calculate

any committed quantities.

_ B: Calculation after the first confirmation date

The committed quantity is calculated from the first commitment situation. If a delivery

time is available for the item, the system takes it into account in calculation rule A and

the system commits the quantity for the earlier date. If you change the material, quantity,

delivery date or delivery time in the sales order, the system recalculates the committed

quantity. In each case the current commitment situation is valid when you save the

document.

_ C: Calculation after the first confirmation date

If you enter new items, rule C corresponds to rule B. If you save the document again and

the customer’s commitment situation has improved, the system saves the better situation

as the committed one. As in calculation rule B, the system recalculates the commitment

dates if you change the material, quantity, requested delivery date or delivery time.

_ No entry: The system does not calculate or display commitment dates.

The committed delivery date is issued in the order confirmation and the agreed delivery time is

included in the printout of the contracts and quotations.

Hi

The calculation logic is given in the F1 help itself. Just click F1 on the field, it will give you how it calculates the commitment date based on the value you have selected. In brief, this takes the result from availability check and confirmed schedule lines and updates this field in document.

Significance

Once a commitment date is made a part of the process, the delivery dates should strictly be adhered to and there cant be any change in teh delivery in case there is shortage or surplus of stock. The dates should be strictly adhered to.

Rwd points if it helps.

Commitment dates switch for calculation rule

Key that controls how the commitment quantities should be calculated per sales document type.

Use

The commitment date is calculated using the delivery time for releases to contracts with delivery times, or sales orders that refer to quotations containing delivery times. The committed quantity results from the agreed delivery time or the confirmed quantity, according to the calculation rule set here.

Dependencies

You can set the following calculation rules:

A: Consider agreed delivery time

Here, all required schedule lines are committed for the date that lies at the agreed distance from the delivery time, according to the date on which the order was placed. If the customer requests a later date, this can be confirmed. The confirmation does not affect the calculation. If you do not enter a delivery time, the system does not calculate a committed quantity.

B: First confirmation date

The committed quantity is calculated according to the first confirmed quantities. If a delivery time exists for the item, the system takes it into account, as in calculation rule A, and confirms the earlier date. The commitment date is recalculated if the material, quantity, first date, or delivery time change. The quantities confirmed then are valid once the document has been saved.

C: First confirmation date

Rule C is the same as calculation rule B but for new items. If you save a document again but the system can confirm more for the customer, the more favorable situation will be saved as the commitment. As in rule B, the commitment date will be recalculated if changes are made to the material, quantity, requested delivery date, or delivery time.
