Hi,

I am applying Basis SP SAPKA70008. I get an IMPORT_PROPER Error.

How can i fix this?

Your database is corrupt, you have bad blocks.

This happens if you have had problems with your hardware, this can also happen if you put your database files on external USB harddrives.

The only way to overcome is to restore your database from a backup.

Hi,

I restored my system, back to before i applied the Basis SP, and checked knldiag, and was clear. Then i run DBACOCKPIT and tried to refresh status and got a similar short dump.

Note: i am running my system on VMWare running the system on an external USB HDD. Is there special settings i need to make?

Bad pages are real corruptions, the database is reading data, it´s not expected to read, you seem to have issues with your USB.

Give the fact ,that there are so many layers in between (Guest OS --> virtual HD driver --> VMWare --> Host OS --> Host OS HD driver --> USB driver --> Harddisk) it´s very difficult if not impossible to find the reason of those kind of errors.

What you can try to do is to shut down VMWare and do a "chkdsk /f" on your external harddrive. If you get errors there, then the harddrive is broken. If not, well.. then it´s something "in between". You can check the eventlog on your host os, check the VMware log, maybe enable tracing on VMware but as said, it may be pretty difficult and cumbersome.
