What exactly is automatic posting can you explain?

When you are creating an invoice, if you want the invoice to be automatically posted to GL accounts, it is called so.

You can prevent that at the billing document type level by ticking on the Posting block check box, else any invoice gets posted to GL account automatically by means of creation of an acccounting document.

Billing Document can be posted to accounts either manually or automatic. If we want to have manual control, in T.Code: VOFA, say Billing Type: F2, we activate / check Posting Block, hence Billing will be created, but not transfered to accounting. If we uncheck the same, based on configuration in T.Code VKOA, the appropriate G/L are identified & the billing document is posted to accounts automatically.

Incase of configuration missing in T.code: VKOA or some relevant data missing in Master data like customer master data (Acct, assgmt Group of Customer), material master data (Acct, assgmt Group of material) or Account Key missing in Pricing Procedure, etc the Billing Document will not be posted to accounting.

Hi mate

If u want in simple terms Posting of documents will be triggered automatically once you complete the required function(eg:To G/L accounts you dont have to use separate transaction for posting)Automatic posting is usually done for repetitive action(with same parameters).

1. Automatic posting could be, posting of accounting documents to FICO once invoice is created which can also be controlled manually. Automatically determine the freight while pricing in ship doc. and post to the relevant account to FICO . usually automatic posting is posting of documents to FICO based on various account keys and account groups.

The consolidation process is supported by automatic postings. As opposed to manual postings, automatic postings do not require the entry of line items. The system does this for you in accordance with the settings you make in Customizing.

When posting documents, the system automatically adds line items to manually entered items as needed. For example, the tax amount, the cash discount amount, and profits or losses from foreign currency translations (exchange rate differences) can all be calculated and posted automatically by the system. You can decide that accounts to which these automatic postings are made can only be posted to automatically. This will prevent any manual postings to such an account. A definition like this would be useful for tax accounts, if, for example, you had no subsequent tax debit to post.
