Hi all,
I've a problem with the tablespace "PSAPTEMP". With brtools, it's indicated that this tablespaces is already used up to 100 %. If I want to extend the tablespace, there're shown the current options:
1*last addes file name F:\ORACLE\WSP\SAPDATA3\TEMP_1\TEMP.DATA1
...........
3-new file to be added F:\oracle\WSP\sapdata3\temp_2\temp.data2
Although, a further problem ist that the directories temp_x is available up to temp_6\TEMP.DATA6.
What is the right way to extend the tablespace PSAPTEMP? Why doesn't it work in my database?
Thanks &
Best Regards,
Petra
Hi,
Use Oracle Enterprise Manager to extend the tablespace

why using Oracle Enterprise Manager?
I currently do not know if they have changed something there, but in Oracle9 OEM was not able to create the datafile not the directory structure to it.
brtools will do the complete (directory structure and datafile) job for you!
If extending a tablespace you first have to select the tablespace name.
maybe you are struggeling at the point where you are able to add more than one datafile at a time.
Have a look at the output of my session extending PSAPTEMP (OK it's Oracle10 based, but the 640 brtools should look similar at this point):

Best Regards,
Petra
I did not test it for a while therefore I was a little unsure if the problem is stil existing, but it does even in Oracle10 OEM:
generated statement by OEM:
ALTER TABLESPACE "PSAPSR3700" ADD DATAFILE 'H:\oracle\JUO\nonexistingdirectory\test.data1' SIZE 2375680K REUSE AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 20480K MAXSIZE 10000M;
Failed to commit: ORA-01119: error in creating database file 'H:\oracle\JUO\nonexistingdirectory\test.data1' ORA-27040: file create error, unable to create file OSD-04002: unable to open file O/S-Error: (OS 3) The system cannot find the path specified.
That's what I said: OEM will not create the directory.
br*tools can handle a maximum of 1 datafile per directory.
OEM is not able to create directories -at least on windows- for new datafiles, this is very stupid.
regards
Peter
first of all, check wether you are using actual br*tools.
second, brtools will normaly automatically generate a filename and directory name for newly creating datafiles. Did brtools calculate the filename or did you specify it manually?
creating a new file needs a new and empty directory for it's destination.
the alternativ is to extend an existing one.
regards
Peter

our actual version of the br*tools at this system is 6.40 (11).
The problem is, that the other files are created automatically by brtools. But with the tablespace "PSAPTEMP", it doesn't work.
1 * Last added file name (lastfile) ....... [F:\ORACLE\WSP\SAPDATA3\TEMP_1\TEMP
.DATA1]
2 * Last added file size in MB (lastsize) . [540]
3 - New file to be added (file) ........... [F:\oracle\WSP\sapdata3\temp_2\temp
.data2]
4 # Raw disk / link target (rawlink) ...... []
5 - Size of the new file in MB (size) ..... [540]
6 - File autoextend mode (autoextend) ..... [no]
7 # Maximum file size in MB (maxsize) ..... [10000]
8 # File increment size in MB (incrsize) .. [20]
9 - SQL command (command) ................. [alter tablespace PSAPTEMP add temp
file 'F:\oracle\WSP\sapdata3\temp_2\temp.data2' size 540M autoextend off]
The problem is "3 - New file to be added (file) ........... [F:\oracle\WSP\sapdata3\temp_2\temp.data2]". This datafile already exists. In our system, there are actually tempfiles up to F:\oracle\WSP\sapdata3\temp_6\TEMP.DATA6.
There's something amiss with the step" 1 * Last added file name (lastfile) ....... [F:\ORACLE\WSP\SAPDATA3\TEMP_1\TEMP.DATA1]" . Because the actual last added file name ist TEMP.DATA6.
Regards,
Petra
Hello Herr Simon,
you often gave us a very helpful support on SDN.
The described problem just occurs at 2 systems.
This two systems act extreme slowly at the login via sap-logon. And on opening a new session, the process aborts at times.
The only conspicuity, is the problem with the tablespace PSAPTEMP. These are busy up to 100 percent. But it isn't possible to extend them with BRTools.
A further risk is, that the one of the affected systems is our productive system.
But here I want to interpellate you, if you could give us support via PCAnywhere or locally at this current problem. As best I can review your support, I'm sure, that you could help us to solve this problem.
That I can clarify with our manager, I should know, how much you demand for such a support per hour.
Hoping for an early and positive answer.
Best Regards,
Petra Wiedemann (pwi@wsw.de]
Hello Petra,
sorry, but for the same reason why advertising is not allowed in this forum we do not accept service requests via this forum.
please use the official support channels (http://service.sap.com) if you can not get an appropriate answer to your questions here or if they do not solve your problem.
thank you for understanding.

Hi,
Perhaps you can provide the following information
1) Is PSAPTEMP Locally managed or dictionary Managed?
2) How many datafiles/tempfiles PSAPTEMP has?
You can answer this two questions looking at DB02 or looking at SQLPLUS:
select CONTENTS, EXTENT_MANAGEMENT from DBA_TABLESPACES
where TABLESPACE_NAME='PSAPTEMP';
If the content is PERMANENT then you have to query DBA_DATAFILES for the number of datafiles: If the content is TEMPORARY then you have to query DBA_TEMP_FILES:
select FILE_NAME from DBA_DATA_FILES
where TABLESPACE_NAME ='PSAPTEMP
order by FILE_NAME;
or
select FILE_NAME from DBA_TEMP_FILES
where TABLESPACE_NAME ='PSAPTEMP'
order by FILE_NAME;
Then you can see if Eric is correct and the file
F:\oracle\WSP\sapdata3\temp_2\temp.data2
( and maybe others )is a leftover.
If so, delete it at OS and try again.

Hello Fidel,
the output of the query <i>select CONTENTS, EXTENT_MANAGEMENT from DBA_TABLESPACES where TABLESPACE_NAME='PSAPTEMP';</i> is the following:
CONTENTS EXTENT_MAN
-
-
TEMPORARY LOCAL
And the result of <i>SQL> select FILE_NAME from DBA_TEMP_FILES where TABLESPACE_NAME='PSAPTEMP' order by FILE_NAME;</i> is the following:
FILE_NAME
-
F:\ORACLE\WSP\SAPDATA3\TEMP_1\TEMP.DATA1
F:\ORACLE\WSP\SAPDATA3\TEMP_2\TEMP.DATA2
F:\ORACLE\WSP\SAPDATA3\TEMP_3\TEMP.DATA3
F:\ORACLE\WSP\SAPDATA3\TEMP_4\TEMP.DATA4
F:\ORACLE\WSP\SAPDATA3\TEMP_5\TEMP.DATA5
F:\ORACLE\WSP\SAPDATA3\TEMP_6\TEMP.DATA6
6 rows selected.
Best regards,
Petra
Hi,
then the file proposed by BRSPACE already exists.
You should try with the latest BR* version and if it does not work, keep the log files and open an message in SAP.
Perhaps the files 2-6 were not added with BRSPACE but externally.
Knowing the last file added, then you can tell BRSPACE to add a different one.
For example, BRSPACE shows you this:
Options for extension of tablespace PSAPTEMP (1. file)
1 * Last added file name (lastfile) ....... [<b>F:\ORACLE\WSP\SAPDATA3\TEMP_1\TEMP.DATA1</b>]
2 * Last added file size in MB (lastsize) . [2000]
3 - New file to be added (file) ........... [<b>F:\oracle\WSP\sapdata3\temp_2\temp.data2</b>]
4 # Raw disk / link target (rawlink) ...... []
5 - Size of the new file in MB (size) ..... [2000]
6 - File autoextend mode (autoextend) ..... [no]
7 # Maximum file size in MB (maxsize) ..... [10000]
8 # File increment size in MB (incrsize) .. [20]
9 - SQL command (command) ................. [alter tablespace PSAPTEMP add tem
file <b>'F:\oracle\WSP\sapdata3\temp_2\temp.data2'</b> size 2000M autoextend off]
Then choose the option 3 and change it to ( for example )
3 - New file to be added (file) ........... [<b>F:\oracle\WSP\sapdata3\temp_7\temp.data7</b>]
