HI Gabriel

For ALE/IDoc there is nothing called from perspective of SAP XI. IDocs are the form of data that are transferred between systems, whereas SAP XI is the transportation system used to pass this data. XI is an Integration broker.

ALE is point to point mainly used for integrating SAP systems and capable of creating a dialogue only between a pair of systems, but SAP XI is capable of involving many systems at the same time. ALE does not support open standards like Webservices etc.

For just SAP XI and SAP connectivity for the IDoc transport, you can use the following links:

Hi Find some important info on ALE and IDOC

ALE:

1) Used mostly for SAP to SAP communication. Used in Distributed servers system. E.g. Say a Company has a central server at its head office and local servers at its branches. ALE is used to keep all the servers synchronized.

2) Does not need EDI subsystem for communication.

3) ALE is an SAP terminology. ALE is integrated with SAP product.

IDOC:

1) Used Mostly for communication between any 2 systems on different networks. E.g. Communication by a company with its Suppliers and Customers.

2) Needs a EDI subsystem for communication

3) EDI is a technology in itself. It has its own set of standards. SAP supports EDI through IDOCs.
