When do we run SGEN and what does it do.?

Hi

Make use of the transaction ‘SGEN’ to re-generate all the SAP programs after an SAP upgrade or a kernel patch.

Do take care of the table spaces and use SAPDBA to observe them.

Do it during a weekend which is the best or a period of time with very very low users activity.

It will takes about 5 to 8 hours depending on the type of hardware configuration you are using.

Because of this regeneration the system performance improves as every time it will not have to compile all the programs which are being used and so you will not c the Watch for compiling.

Hi Parvez,

You can use transaction SGEN to generate the ABAP loads of a number of programs, function groups, classes, and so on, as well as Business Server Page applications (BSP applications).

It is not necessarily run from 000 Client.

Hi,

The tcode SGEN should always be used right after installation to compile

all ABAP programs.

One can also use it to compile the ABAP contents of specific change

requests.

It is one of the last activitity of post installation activities.

I have good information here also wanted to know is it that we should execute SGEN in client 000 itself or can be executed in any other client.
