GAP Analysis

A through gap analysis will identify the gaps between how the business operates ad its needs against what the package can can't do. For each gap there will be one of three outcomes which must be recorded and actioned, GAP must be closed and customized software can be developed close the gap, GAP must be closed but software cannot be written therefore a workaround is required, GAP does not need to be closed.

In simple terms: Gap means small cracks. In SAP world. In information technology, gap analysis is the study of the differences between two different information systems or applications( ex; existing system or legacy system with Client and new is SAP), often for the purpose of determining how to get from one state to a new state. A gap is sometimes spoken of as "the space between where we are and where we want to be." Gap analysis is undertaken as a means of bridging that space.

Actual gap analysis is time consuming and it plays vital role in blue print stage.

Ex, The functionality that is not present in Standard SAP and adding it to suit the business requirements. In Credit memo request document type, creating Credit block automatically for those Credit memos above Rs 5000.

e.g.

1.Client wants the legacy customer number in customer master XD01,Where we dont have in Standard SAP,which can be done with user exit

2.Client wants the customer phone number & Fax number fields in Sales order,Which is not in Standard SAP ,can be done with the help of user exits

3. Auto generation of 2nd entry effect in case of Inter-company Billing.

solution: Using an user exit while saving the order, through ABAP coding the program calls Transaction Code F-02 & parks the 2nd effect entry.

4. Identifying business based on Profit Center.

Solution: In Project Creation we made Profit Center Mandatory, so that if Profit center is not maintained bey error or also maintained in that case, based on Profit center maintained for Project code, the profit center will be captured & over write profit center of Material master.

Hi Sasmita,

Following are few gaps.

1) Client want suspended VAT only on printing but it should not be accounted.

2) I place an order to my vendor against a sales order & the goods are received at port from their it directly goes to customer without coming to plant.

3) customized reports which is not available in standard SAP.

4) want to know order staus in production line as well outsourced.

etc. . . basically there is a need & it is not available in standard SAP is GAP.

hi,

Gap Analysis is a GAP u find between the business process of the company and the in The SAP R/3 Process.

Example:

Company is having a busness process XYZ

If R/3 is not is compatible for that Business Process XYZ. Then we call that as a GAP.

So we maintain a GAP Register for that and will try to find solutions for that.

Hope it will be clear . If so Reward Points as of your understanding.
