Webdispatcher + Virtual hosts?!

Hi everyody,

I'm a little bit confused about using Web Dispatcher. Hope somebody can help.

I have installed Web Dispatcher on a seperate host in the DMZ to connect to the Portal (Netweaver AS Java). Now I would like to create a Vhost, so the user can type, for example www.mycompany.de or .com instead of http://wdisphost:port/irj. I have read several threads and sap.help, but I don't get it. Is there a blog or link where I can follow to make the configuration for my needs? Or do I need Apache for my requisitions?

Thanks for help! Points will be regarded.

Hi David,

thanks for your reply. But I already read what you attached. My question is, if I can do what I described above. With the Web Dispatcher in the DMZ and a Netweaver AS Java to reach portal by entering www.mycompany.de into web browser to access portal?

thanks,

Lu

Hi,

i found this in SAP Help. "If you should be able to call the Web application externally, for example using the URL www.shop.acme.com, this host name must be mapped internally to the SAP Web dispatcher. This then forwards the HTTP(S) request to a suitable application servers."

Link: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/42/5cfd3b0e59774ee10000000a114084/frameset.htm

For me it sounds like you need to have a webserver with an alias for your dispatcher url.

David

Hi David,

thanks again.

I have a J2EE server with portal and other applications running on it. The description you sent me sounds like what I'm looking for. But I'm not really sure. The client should reach the Web Dispatcher by using some url and will be redirected to the WAS. I hope it won't be neccessary to have aonther Webserver???!!

Is it possible to create a vhost and the aliases (like on Apache via the vhost.conf-file), for example in the Visual Administrator or NWA? I really can't find some descriptions about that beyond what u sent me. Aren't there any step by step solutions given?

I will keep on trying ::)))

Hi all,

I was trying to find informations about configuring the Web Dispatcher. I found lots of informations, like sap help, notes, threads, etc. I have one more question. Well, our Web Dispatcher is in the DMZ and is the only entry point for extern clients. How or where can I configure the Web Dispatcher or the computer to define the entry point? I mean how to configure the IP-address and the Domain-Alias? We are running the Web Dispatcher on SLES 10.

Hope somebody can help, because I'm pretty new in that stuff. Thanks a lot.

Hello Lu,

The IP - hostname mapping is not part of SAP Web dispatcher. Register the mapping with your ISP, and configure the external firewall to forward traffic for that IP address to this Web Dispatcher server...

For Web Dispatcher, the following parameter would tell it to listen to port 80 for http requests.

icm/server_port_0 = PROT=HTTP,PORT=80

Help.sap.com has pretty good description on how it works.

Good luck,

Victor

Hi Victor,

thanks for your answer. I think what you tell me is exactly what I wanted to hear. I think I have to tell our provider to redirect the incoming request to the new IP of the web dispatcher. Then the Web Dispatcher should be reachable by entering the domains like before.

Now I will create the Vhosts and http alias with VA, but I think this will be another thread, if I'm going to need some help.

Kind Regards,

Lu
