hi ,
i want to send a file from ftp server to sap system.in this case i have two options one is idoc adapter and another one is rfc adapter . what is the difference between rfc and idoc ,under which condition we go for rfc adapter and under which condition we go for idoc adapter.
Hi,
You can use either of these. It actually depends upon your business requirements. So first check with your functional guys whether for the specific interface they have any standard idoc or rfc. If yes then you can go ahead and use it in XI. Else if you have any close to it you can even extend to it.
Coming to IDOC and RFC there are many number of advantages and disadvantages when compared with each other. Just google it up.

RFC is used for sync communications and IDOC is use for async communications.
you can ofcourse use RFC for async communication, but in that case you need to explicitly define a async message interface for RFC
thanx
