Hi,

We had installed oracle10g before starting sapinst. The SID created while installing oracle was "ORCL". Now when i started sapinst installation, its asking oracle SID which is 3 chars. Can i go ahead and put a new SID? Is it mandatory that we need to put an existing SID itself? Pls advice

Thanks

Sujesh

Hi Sujesh,

Better to un-installa oracle complitly and Install again with new SID.

If you continue with old SID i.e ORCL you might be get lot of errors while installation.

Your installation will not work.

SAPINST creates the full environment through the run (ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID and many other things), it will stop, ask you to install Oracle and the continue with the installation.

Additionally it will not use the provided ORCL database but always create one from scratch.

I´d suggest uninstalling Oracle and starting from scratch.
