Dear Sai,

in the IT world a sandbox system is a playground for testing. For example the JVM running in a webbrowser running the Java applets is a sandbox itself.

In a sandbox you can play around, perform some usual and also unusual test before applying it to a productive system.

So a sandbox system in the SAP context is a setup SAP system where possible errors during e.g. upgrade/migration or testing do not have any effect on your productive environment.

Sandbox system is an environment where you can carry out many activities like writing sample programs, testing, customizations to check some functionality etc.
