SAP Router

Hi,

How to access SAP system using sap router string .I know when i add router string in sap logon pad , for ex:

/H/routerip/S/3299/H/

Iam not sure how it works . Can some one suggest how it works and where all are i have to maintain parameters.In our client we have to access sap system using sap router.
