Open sales order is the sales order which can be processed further or it may also be such that it is partially delivered, but not fully delivered. Based on availbilty of material & schedule for delivery, further processing can take place.

But in case of Open Sales Order on Hold, the futher processing can take place after removal of Delivery and / or Billing Block. Some of the example of Open sales order may be visible in Periodic & milestone billing, where further processing of sales order can be carried out after removal of Billing Block (in service related scenario).

Hi

An open sales order is a sales order which is not blocked for anything , but no subsequent documents are created with reference to it. i.e. the document is not blocked for billing or delivery, and this document can be successfully processed further.

A document on hold can be a open order but is blocked for either delivery or billing for some specific reason like, credit check failure, delivery date etc.

We can extract the status of any sales order in the table VBUK and VBUP. The set of tables involved are VBAK, VBAP, VBUK, VBUP

Reward point if it helps.
