Prog analysis

Hai

Need solution for the following scenarios:-

1) by seeing the Project Planning board - Bar chart /gantt chart can see that project is in progress or getting delayed . This is again based on confirming the actual with respect to planned only. In the bar chart will not tell that remaining activity hours /days is still remaining . How to get /see the remaining activity in the bar chart itself instead of doube clicking and entering into that activity?

2) gone through the Project Progress analysis - notes . In the activity Tab - what is the Progress ? how this will be used exactly in PS ? How effectively POC can be used for Project Progress for Workcenter activities

I have seen one of the earlier post but not very clear.

Hi Pratap,

A) You can display up to five different entities in the text form on the gantt chart. This information will appear near the Project definition, WBS or activity bar as per your requirement.

1.Once you are in Project planning board, Go to “Options” - “Planning board”- “Date Bar text Tab”.

2.Under the Time bar Labels, Select Text Type as “Variable Description” , suitable “Text Position” and suitable “Display of sets”

3.Just below the above mentioned time bar labels, you have Five Fields.( Left, Right, Top, Below and Within). Now in these fields you can have option to display any of the data as required by you.

4.In your case, you can choose “Remaining Duration”, “Remaining Work” etc…( Around 134 options are possible)

B) Regarding “progress”. This Tab is required if you are working with POC and Earned value management. Some of the salient features are mentioned below:

1.Earned value analysis can be carried out on WBS or activities. The progress Tab in Activity will be used, if you are calculating POC in the Activities.

2.POC Weight is required if you want to explicitly specify the weigtages of the individual activity for aggregation to the WBS. If you do not specify the weigtages, the system itself gives suitable weights.

3.One of the very important parameter while calculating the POC is the Progress Version. Its here where you mention the basis for calculating the Earned value and POC.

4.The POC method (Plan and actual) defines the way how POC will be calculated.

5.In case the activities are assigned to WBS elements, then the best method will be calculating the POC in Activities and the system will, by itself get the POC values in WBS.

6.There are various POC measurement methods, and you will have to choose, which measurement method suits best to your requirements.

7.After assigning these parameters, After you have started your work and get actual costs, you can Run CNE1 and subsequently CNE5 to get the Earned Values ( BCWP, BCWS etc )

8.Help.sap.com is the best resource, if you need to go ahead with your configuration. It details each of the measurement method for POC with examples.

Hope this explanation would be helpful to start the configuration.

Reward your points suitably.

hai Srinivas

Thanks for ur detailed reply.

As u said i already with the options

1) what u mentioned in point2 ,3 and 4 but still i am not getting the required.

2) Regarding CNE5 - it gives the cost of BCWP and BCWS - what the scenario require is actual duration and remaining duration for the activities in the project.

Hi Srinivas,

Thanks a lot for your detail explanation. Could you enlighten about time based progress analysis. As progress analysis you have specified is for cost/budget based. How to track project progress in terms of activity duration etc. Any S-Curve can be made.

Hi Pratap,

1) Please check the requirement specified in the text boxes. You get only the relevant values for a specific objects. For example if you specify that you want :basic date", then this is applicable only for WBS element. Obviously this field will not be displayed against the activity. Similarly "Work" Field will get displayed only for the activities.

You should have a look at the SAP Note 363103 - Setting "Time bar labels" not effective. For your convenience, I am replicating a portion of the note here

Symptom

The time bars of the project planning board cannot be labeled and saved user-specifically. However, changes you made in the settings dialog box have no effects.

Cause and prerequisites

The interactive user guide is not clear.

Solution

You find the corresponding dialog under "Settings --> Options..." in the planning board on tab page "Date bar text".

Here, the set text type controls which values should be displayed at the time bar:

•If you want to display only a single labeling, set one of the proposed options as a text type ("Description", "Start date", "Finish date", "Start & finish date" or "No heading").

•If you select option "Variable description" as a text type, you can specify up to five different values for the display. For allowed options, refer to the respective field help.

Also Have a look at a Note 500933 - Proj.plng board: Recomm., additional information, consulting.

2) CNE5 does have option to display actual Duration and remaining duration. Just select the "Actual duration" and " Remaining duration" from the field selection and you will get the required field in the report.

Hope this clarifies your query. Please recheck the required parameter and I am sure you will get the result.

Hi Ranjan,

As regards to your query on time based progress analysis. Well, the "% duration" and "% work" in CN41, give you the actual POC for network activity.... If you are using Confirmations in the network activities.

Also have a look at the Progress version. Here you can define the basis for POC.... Whether its Cost plan, Budget, Work or based on Weigtages. ( Select the progress version- Go to "Settings for progress analysis-Select your controlling area-- and double click.)

As regards to S-Curve. I am not sure on this, but please go to CNE5 and select the graphical representation. You may get what you are looking for. Try for select all the date relavant fields and see the graphs ( Total curves, Correlations etc ).

Hope this helps.
