How does an Integration Server is Different from an Integration Engine? And what's the role played by them?

Integration engine(uses XI message protocol to route message correctly to the designated receiver),adapter engine(contains all the adapters,except IDOC and HTTP) and business process engine(supports stateful execution of message by taking care of BPM) are all part of integration server

The Integration Engine exists on all SAP WebAs systems. It enables the messaging (using XML).
The Integration Server has an Integration Engine, and additional services like mappings, technical routings, adapters (via the adapter Engine).
