How to apply patch on Kernal for ECC 5.0?

Hi,

I have installed a new SAP ECC 5.0 system. The release verion shows the current Release as 6.4 and Patch Level 43. Now I want to apply the latest patch on Kernal.

Can any one please provide me the steps for

1). How to proceed with the Kernal upgarde?

2). Which all files to be downloaded from Service Marketplace before proceeding

with the upgrade?

3). Any configurations/back up to be done before starting with upgradation?

4). Any document for the upgradation of Kernal.?

5). How to confirm whether the upgradation has been done sucessfully?

Please reply ASAP!

This is for 4.6C but same can be used for other releases.

Coming to some specific questions:

Which all files to be downloaded from Service Marketplace before proceeding

with the upgrade?

Two types of files: Database specific ,database independent. You can choose both.

How to confirm whether the upgradation has been done sucessfully?

You can find the info in SM51-- Release Information.

Hi Ruchit,

Thanks for the information. But I have a confusion as to what are the files to be downloaded from Service MarketPlace as there are a lot of files available for download.

I will appreciate if you can send me a list of the files to be downloaded and extracted for Kernal upgradation.

The basic reason behind upgrading the Kernal is to remove an issue with ICM.

Also can you please send me the details for all the files of the Patch to be download as there are a lot of files but all of them are not available for the same patch level.

For latest patches you can check at

http://service.sap.com/swdc -> Support Packages and

Patches -> Entry by application -> Application Components

-> SAP ERP -> ERP2004 -> SAP ECC Server

There are two kinds of kernal files:

SAPDBEXE and SAPEXE,one is DB dependent and one file is DB independent.

For downloading the kernal patch:Follow the below path as per your OS and DB combination

for downloading a kernel patch

go through following

service.sap.com/swdc

downloads-> SAP Support packages -> My Company's Application Components -> SAP KERNEL 32 bit ->SAP KERNEL 4.6D 32-BIT ->SAP KERNEL 4.6D 32-BIT->Windows Server on IA32 32bit -> Select ur database->Windows Server on IA32 32bit
