Hi,
I've heard of an architecture for communication between two parties, using XI.
Party one called a webservice of party two. The webservice is hosted on a Microsoft server. This server sends a message to SAP XI, and XI sends an IDOC to SAP R/3.
I was wondering: could it be more simple to directly call a webservice hosted on R/3, and why/why not ?
thanks,
Rolf

HI,
How will you convert the any file(.txt, .xml,ansi12) into IDOC .
Then in Xi mapping is used so that we can populate some field according to requirment and according to the data coming.
In direct scenario how will u do this.

Hi Rolf,
PI / XI is an integration platform to avoid point-to-point-connections. Escpially if you have in greater landscapes, which are typical for companies, many connections, it is a strategic advantage to have a
- a central repository for interfaces and mappings for better reuse,
- a central place for configuration for better maintenace,
- a central monitoring for easier error find out
- a central platform for cheaper hosting
- a central alerting for faster correcting of failures
and some more.

Udo

Do you have XI in the landscape with multiple interfaces running. If yes, use XI.
If plan is to use XI only for this, then consider direct connection
