CUSTOMER NR creation in SAP MDM

Dear SAP MDM specialists,

We plan on using SAP MDM 5.5 SP05.

We want to create customer master in MDM and push it to SAP ECC 6.0.

The challenges I see are :

1) Customer Nr ---> should it be using EXTERNAL Number range in SAP ECC ?

2) How can we create customer Nr in MDM automatically...can we use assignment expressions for the same and are there any limitations with it ?

What is the way to do that ?

Dear SAPNETWEAVER USER,

you will be forced to use the external number range in SAP ECC 6.0. And that makes sense because this way you can very nicely separate the Vendors created in MDM from the Master Data created locally in ECC.

With respect to create Nr. in MDM, the standard solution is to use the Number Range assignement feature in the MDM Console>Admin>Remote Systems>Key generation... This feature wil not only create a Key in the appropriate number range, but it will also Lay a Key-Mapping that will be very much important for sending updates back to MDM.

Hi.

What you can do is to create a text field, writable once, and required. Additionally you should mark it as calculated, and enter the calculation expression in the expression builder. It is all done through the console.

I'm not aware of any limitations to that.
