Please help if you can.

Sapinst Version 642 is hanging on phase extract sap system kernel archives when configuring the first node of the cluster. The logfile displays a copy command for sapmmc.dll, and then it just hangs with no further error messages or logs. We have tried copying this file manually, the installer then hangs on copying the next file, rfcosocol.exe. Whilst this will work for all manually copied files, eventually, no check is done as to the file version for the init.ora file and we can progress no further.

Make sure you have enough space in $TEMP (or $TMP or /tmp -- whatever sapinst is using) as well as in the target file system where it's unpacking the kernel. I've also seen weird crashes & hangs if the path to the CD is too long; the input field is like 256 characters, but internally SAPINST truncates it to 148 or something, so if you enter a really long path (and the new DVD paths are pretty long these days), it may truncate the filename.

Many thanks for your response Rich.

Space was not an issue. The CD's were copied to the C drive and the path names were fairly short so again that was not an issue.

SAP recommended following Note 929929 which downloads the latest SAPINST patch. This solved the problem for us.
