Hi All
I needed some insights on NPD process. I wanted to know the exact steps required to implement this project.
What are the possible difficulties faced?
What companies have implemented this in Indian context?
How is it linked to work flow management ?
If you have worked on a NPD dashboard ? Some examples , screenshots would help.
Thanks

Hi,
also the SAP NPDI Roadshow with its Demos gives a nice overview:

How does it make sense in consumer goods industry / FMCG? Do you know of any clients in India who have implemented NPD?
Is it possible for you to send me some screenshots of NPD dashboard.
Thanks

Hi BW BW
To be frankly speaking NPDI is nothing but of PDM (Product Data Management) along with some collaboration activities with sub-contractors/manufactures/contractors etc.
Here you will be dealing more with Document Managment System (DMS) Integrated with some CAD (ACAD, MDT, Inventor, Solidedge etc) as per the clients application package, you will be dealing with all sort of objects like Class, Characteristics, Bill Of Materials, Material Master etc,
IT is a kind of Integration of DMS - Material Master - BOM- CAD- ECM (Engineering Change Mangement) and with other R/3 Components and if scenario demands then with CFolders/Cprojects too.
If any consultant is familiar with these objects and SAP R/3 Process then it is very easy to work on NPDI or PDM or PLM its all the same where SAP sells in different bottles with different names (like Pepsi/Coca etc)
As it is a typical development project, the engineering partner creates this project with a template including the WBS, networks and activities. Once the engineering partner has evaluated the specification and won the order, they create a sales order and assign the WBS to it. In the meantime, the development department uses CAD software to work on the designs. Once they create the document BOM, they create the product structure automatically using CAD Desktop. They then execute the costing run to calculate the cost of the assembly robot. If the costs are too high, they can replace a component with a less expensive one (replace expensive rotating column EASY GOING - ASL 275G with the cheaper rotating column STANDARD - ASL 275G). Then the vendor (engineering partner) uploads the BOM to cFolder website so the customer can give their advice and even change the BOM or documents. The customer changes the CAD file directly using ECL viewer in cFolder. The engineering partner changes the BOM and documents according to the customer's requirements and assigns a new revision level to it.
Finally the project is closed and settled, and all the costs such as labor costs and material costs are posted to the project. The sales order is billed and a cost/revenue report for project and sales order is created.
