Problem in installing ECC 5.0 on Intel Xeon processor

Hi All,

We are installing ECC 5.0 in our company. The OS is 64 bit windows and the database is Oracle 10g. Most importantly the processor type we have is Intel Xeon.

We have dowloaded installation components like RDBMS , patchset, kernel etc for Windows IA 64bit. When we started installing RDBMS Oracle 10g for Windows IA 64 bit on our Xeon Processor, we get an error message " The application does not support the machine type". Then we also searched in SAP marketplace for components which supports Windows Xeon 64 bit but were unable to find the same.

Can anybody confirm whether the problem occuring is because IA 64 does not support Xeon processor or for some other reason. If so, can I get any help about any other alternatives.

Thanks and Regards,

Abdul

Hi Abdul,

you need the Kernel for AMD64. The reason for this naming convention is that AMD started with the 64bit Extension which is today also build into the Intel Xeon CPUs, having the EM64 feature (all Xeons you can buy today have it).

IA64 would be correct if you would use Itanium CPUs.
