Hello Ravi,

Check snote 862989 and 1023437, this clearly explains how password rules are changed in the newer versions and also about introducing case sensitive passwords in newer versions for more security.

Award points accordingly,

Regards,

Raju.

Exactly - <a href="https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/862989">SAP Note 862989</a> and <a href="https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1023437">SAP Note 1023437</a> are the relevant sources of information - in conjunction with the information on <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/d2/141fb593c742b5aad8f272dd487b74/content.htm">Password Rules</a> published on http://help.sap.com

Remark:

There's a typo - it should read "exclamation mark" instead of "quotation mark" ...

Hi Ravi

in the case of earlier versions NetWeaver 2004 which had ECC 5 contained in it is not case sensitive..it uses EA6..in NetWeaver 2004s the late version uses further developments of ECC 6 and it asks for passwords to be case sensitive further it has a increase in the number of characters that could be used as the password..these are the features of EA7..thus as you had asked the password in NetWeaver 2004s is case sensitive...

please make me know in case of further issues...

Reward points if helpful

Thanks

Hi Ravi,

The new password rules are as follows:

Differentiation between upper and lower case i.e., The system distinguishes between upper and lower case in newly assigned passwords rules. Maximum length increased from eight to forty characters.

In newly-installed systems, this applies immediately to all users; in systems that have been upgraded to SAP NW AS ABAP 7.0 from an earlier release, we have ensured that all users can continue to log on using their old password. The user master record stores information about whether a user has a new password or a password of the old type; this information is analyzed when the system checks the password: if the user has a password of the old type, the system converts the first eight characters of the password into upper case; the remaining thirty-two characters must be spaces. New profile parameters:

login/min_password_lowercase

login/min_password_uppercase

Hope it helps.

Plz award points if it useful.
