Unicode conversion Inplace or Export / Import

We are planning to upgrade from R/3 4.6C to MySAP ERP 2005 SR2 and will be doing a Unicode conversion when the upgrade is complete. We are doing this at OS V5R3M0 with latest sap required PTFs, kernel etc.

My question is when we do the Unicode conversion which process do we follow?

Do we follow the Unicode conversion using the Single Code Page Unicode conversion and do an export/import or do we follow the Inplace procedure as described in OSS note 838402?

Hi Gary,

depending on your codepages you would use the InPlace if you are using latin-1 (1100) only and export import for other codepages.

I hope for you for latin-1 only and then it is a pretty easy thing ...

Hi Volker,

Do I still use MySAP Web AS 6.20 Unicode Conversion Guide as stated in the In-place procedure or do I use the Unicode Conversion Guide for Netweaver 2004s SP12?

Hi Gary,

it's up to you, I would use the NW200s version, but the part, that is necessary for you is 5% only anyway - at least I typically skip nearly everything in Non-MDMP conversions (I do skip even the consistency check)

Hi Volker,

Does the In-place procedure apply to upgrading to SAP Netweaver AS 7.00 (SAP ECC 6.0)? If it does, where can I find the latest documentation? The version of the documentation I have refers to SAP WAS 6.20.

Hi Gary,

yes, that applies to 7.0 as well ))

The docu is still the same

You only need the new SAPINST template that is described in that note and then it works similar ...
