Hi sappers,
In Material Determination how can we substitute 3products insteads of one products.
ex..
original material A
substituted materials are A1 A2 A3.
now i would like to substitute A1 , A2 and A3 instead of material A
A=A1, A2 & A3..
Anybody having clear documentation of Material determination.

Make reason for substitution is availability if A is order for 100units it's not available then it well substitute with a1,a2,a3 a1 is available 25 units a2 is available with 50units and a3 is available with 25 units then it display the pop up box then you can select based on available.

Dear Ravikumar Talluri,

<b>Material determination enables the automatic substitution of materials in sales documents during sales order processing</b>. For example, during the course of a sales promotion, the system can, during sales order entry, automatically substitute a material that has promotional packaging. A consumer product may have a special wrapper for, for example, the Christmas season. Using material determination, the system substitutes the material only during the specified period.
In addition, you can use material determination if you want the system to automatically substitute, for example:
customer-specific product numbers with your own material numbers
International Article Numbers (EANs) with your own material numbers
Substituting discontinued materials with newer materials

<b>SD material Determination based on availability check</b>
For SD material Determination you can create a Substitution reason and on the Strategy field, the following info. is available:
Product selection in the background is performed on the basis of the availability check.
We want to have the material determination only in case on material shortage. We expect the Substitution reason to give us this functionallity. It does not hovever take the availabilty into account before substitution.
We thought the worse case is to create a ABAP which is linked to the "requirement" field in the Procedure (OV13).
Has anyone had the same requirement? Is this a bug or just incorrectly documented?
I also encountered this abnormally recently using material determination. In order to combat the problem, the first product substitution should be for the original material. I've illustrated this below:
Original Product: ABC
Substitutes: DEF, XYZ
In order to perform product substitution ONLY in the case of ATP failure for product ABC, structure the Material Determination record as follows:
Material Entered: ABC Substitutes: ABC
DEF
XYZ
There seems to be a devaition at availability check and or on a conceptual note still.
Availability check can be configured both at requiremnt class and at the schedule line categories level.
Whilst the availabilty check at the requirement class level via global and mandatory configuration the schedule line catgry availability check deals with the order.
It is mandatory that the reqmnt class is flagged off for avlblty check and the schdelu line cat need not be.
The following are the mandatory for Availability check to happen--
1. Must be swithced on at the requirment class level and at the schedule line level.
2. Reqmnt type must exist by which a requiremnt class can be found
3. There must exist a plant and is defined
4.Checking group must be defined in Material Master records(it controls whthr the system is to create individual or collective reqmnt)
A combination of checking gropup and checking rule will determine the scope of availbaility check.
Hope this will help.

Naveen.

You can create a Sales BOM in <b>T.Code: CS01</b> For E.g.,<b>B</b> contains <b>A1, A2, A3</b>
then in <b>T.code: VB11</b>, assign <b>A=B</b>
any thoughts?
Correct me If iam wrong

Hello Ravi,
<b>In Product seletion the actual material can replaced by more than one material depending on the their availability.</b>
<b>The following is the detailed notes on Material Determination:</b>
<b>Material determination or Product selection</b>
1. Material determination (sometimes referred to as product selection) is a method in SAP-SD to substitute or swap one material in the sales order for another using the condition technique and is triggered by the material entered in the line item of the sales order. Material determination can also use a pop-up window with a number of products the user can choose from the list.
2. Material determination can be automatic or manual and is used
When an old product is becoming obsolete (outdated) and the business is releasing a new product in its place starting from a specific date. In this case the old item gets automatically replaced by the new item in the sales order.
You may configure the system to automatically swap one material for a number of other materials, the one material being determined based on which one is available.
It is also possible to swap the material for a number of materials, where the user is presented to choose from the list.
Material determination is specifically useful should you wish to swap your customers part number automatically for your own at the time of the sales order.
3. for customising (OV12) IMG sales and distribution basic functions material determination; and for create a condition record (VB11) logistics sales & distribution master data products material determination create condition record (material).
4. For configuration (condition technique)
You can put the required the fields in to the field catalogue.
Condition table has to be created with the field material entered and give the table number between 501 to 999.
Create an access sequence and assign the condition table to the access sequence.
Create condition type and an access sequence should be assigned to it.
Create a material determination procedure and assign the relevant condition type to it.
Assign the procedure to the required sales document types.
Lastly, create condition records (VB11) in the front end.
5. A substitution reason is a rule that controls the material determinations execution.
6. The following is the description of the columns in substitution reason
Entry controls whether you would like the system to print the name or number of the original material on the order confirmation.
Warning indicator if set, indicates a warning message to the user that a material determination is about to take place.
Strategy determines if the substitution should be automatic or if the proposed material determination items should be displayed via a pop-up box for selection.
Outcome this column enables to decide whether or not the proposed item from material determination should automatically replace the existing material or if it should be displayed as a sub item in the sales order.
If the existing material is replaced then everything works as a standard procedure i.e. item cat. - TAN and sch. line CP, move type 601 otherwise the following case applies -
In this case the higher level item category would be TAX (non stock item, Schedule line category - CX) and the substituted item (sub item) would be TAPS - schedule line category PP - movement type -601. During the configuration of item categories the main item that is being substituted should have a usage indicator PSHP and the sub item should have PSEL. In all other standard substitution cases item category would be TAN.
Item usage indicator controls the system reaction when you process a sales document item in a certain context. This is mostly used in cases like free of charge items & material determination where there is clause of main item and a corresponding sub item.
<b>Reward points if helps</b>

Sai
