Forecast strategy 98: No forecast

Former Member

HI!

The users would like to assign a forecast profil wich use the strategy 98 (no forecast). But, in interactive demand planning, when i assign this profil to a selection (by clicking on the univariate forecast button) the assignement isn't saved even if i click on the save button. Moreover, the forecast isn't save.

Can i have some help please?

Thanks by advance,

LB

HI Laurent.

Ok but answer 1 question first. how did the forecast profile that is currently assigned to the selection get to be assigned? Manually or through background processing? (options on forecast activity definition).

The profile is assigned manuallly when the user run the forecast in the interactive demand planning transaction. For other profiles, the assignement and the forecast are saved correctly but not for strategy 98.

NB : the user can also use a specific user exit macro wich allows the user to do mass assignement in SDP94. In this case the assignement with strategy 98 is saved.

Ok, then this is not assignment but selection of a profile to carry out interactive forecasting. Not the same thing unfortunately.

You can assign forecast profiles to selections using trx /SAPAPO/MSDP_FCST2.

However, be careful here as selections in this context refer to planning area selections, which are not the same as selections created for a planning book.

Planning area selections can be seen/managed through /SAPAPO/MDSP_ADMIN, open a planning area and then menu Goto->Selection Management.

Selections can be created here, but it is generally best practice for selections to be generated and assigned to internally generated forecast profiles as part of background forecasting. By using a diagnosis group within a master forecast profile, errors outside of the threshold defined in the diagnosis group will switch to generating these new profiles and assignments if the pertinent radio buttons are selected in the Forecast activity definition.

If you create selections directly to manually assign separate forecast profiles, be very clear on the characteristic combinations you are creating them for as it is important to input exactly the same characteristic for selection in the planning book. (If this is not the case the assigned profiles will not be seen - a check for this is in inetarctive forecasting to use GoTo-> Selection display which shows the selection as would be used for assignment and clarify that it matches the characteristic levels defined in the planning area selection you created)

It might seem a bit confusing and it can be when you don't use the background method.

Thanks for your answer,

The user doesn't have the authorization to go in /SAPAPO/MSDP_FCST2.Either he (she in fact) uses the specific user exit macro witch allows her to do mass assignements (for exemple Profile S10 constant for the 1000 products of a selection profile) or manually when she run forecast in SDP94 (she selects a profils and when she quits the transaction the assignements is saved (ie visible in /SAPAPO/MSDP_FCST2)) . There is never any assignement with a backgroud job.

In fact i think that assignements when you run a forecast in SDP94 are only saved when there is forecast and with the no forecast strategy there is no forecast (really? ^^). It is the same thing when you run the forecast with another strategy but without history. APO doesn't do forecast and doesn't save the assignements.

HI Laurent.

I'll try and explain another way in case we are getting wires crossed.

The process we are following allows us to assign strategy 98 to a selection. Steps as follows:

1. Master Forecast profile with univariate using auto model selection created.

2. Diagnosis group assigned for error threshold and alert generation for no forecast

3. DP Background activity created to use Forecast Profile - Control Parameter "Generate new profile when errors" is set to on.

4. Background processing runs

5. Alerts generated for CVC selections where either error threshold exceeded or no forecast could be generated. Also new forecast profile is generated internally and assigned to the selection.

6. Alerts guide user to interactive forecasting where the profile generated and assigned during BG run is used.

7. If user deems that No Forecast(98) is suitable, that model is selected, the profile can be saved.

8. In /SAPAPO/MSDP_FCST2 you can (if you have access) see that strategy 98 is assigned to the selection.

I am not sure how this works in a user exit macro.

Hope this helps. Mark
