I have a laptop with Windows XP. I wonder if I can install IDES 4.7 on this. Do I still have to have windows 2000 to get it working? I would greatly appreciate if someone can email me IDES 4.7 installation guide for windows XP.

There is not such installation guide because Windows XP is considered as a client operating system and not server os. It MAY work but it will work best and is supported on Windows 2000 SP4 and Windows 2003 only.

it won't support to transports????
why that?
there are some limitations of XP (ok, I am talking about the Professional version)which may not allow you to install an SAP ABAP Server on it:
1. depends on the database vendor: you are not able to install MS SQL-Server on XP. There is a free XP version of MS-SQL-Server. But this one has limitations in maximum database size. IDES or other ABAP Servers version did not fit into this limitation
2. the number of XP network connections are limited. For running a single user ABAP Server without extensive communications to other ABAP Servers it should be ok.
3. there is no real /3 GB support. /3GB is strongly recommended by SAP for all versions > 4.6C. Windows XP will accept the /3GB switch, but I have been faced with blue screens in the past when trying to activate it (most third party hardware drivers are not tested with /3 GB switched on)
4. Windows XP professional is limited to a maximum of 3 GB physical memory.
this may be not enough depending on the tasks you are trying to run with IDES.

Hi,
even if you cant install SAP on XP(do you have the home or the Prof edition),
you can intall it under VMWare or MS Virtual PC.
This is only for Production systems not supported, but for development or demo it is supported.
an if you want you install it under linux or Windows server....
greetings
Rainer
