Hi Suneel,
SCM APO is completely a planning system. The Planning results of the same will be sent to R/3 for execution.
SAP APO is termed as SCM from 4.0 version onwards. SCM has ICH, Event Mgmt, Extended Warehouse mgmt, Forecast and Replenishment along with APO.
The following are the components of APO
1 Demand Planning
Is an extension of flexible planning in Production planning module of R/3. It is
used to forecast the sales. The Output of Demand Planning(Forecast) is either
sent to R/3 or SNP.
2 Supply Network Planning
SNP is used to do sourcing. For eg from where the product has to be procured
and how the supply is to be distributed to Demand.
3 Production Planning and Detailed scheduling
PP/DS is used to do detailed scheduling of production orders. It does Capacity
planning as well.
4 Global availability to promise
This module is an extension to SD's ATP functionality. The limitation of ATP are
dealt in GATP. This module is used to determine the product availability date
and the qty to be confirmed to the Customer.
5 Transportation Planning and vehicle scheduling.
This module groups optimizes the transportation capacity(Trucks, Trailers) of
the plant and also schedules the vehicles, determines the route to cover
maximum customers.
I hope this information helps.
Best Regards
Raghu
