Hi,

the answer is it depends on the Organization. Also it is based on the applications used in that organization.

For e.g 1. mySAP ERP 2005, BW, nw2004S (all related to SAP ERP)

2. Multiple ERPs like Oracle, PeopleSoft etc with SAP components

Hope this helps,

Rgds,

Thanks and how would a XI landscape look like? with prod, dev and testing servers? generally how many Prod, test and dev servers are used in a big organization?

Also can you give an example of how the landscape was in the companies where you did your projects, without mentioning the name of the companies off course?

Thanks,

Ashish

Hi Ashish

In our company we have a SAP SRM systems with Dev, QA and Prod. And EP systems with D, Q and P. And also BI and PI systems with D, Q and P.

Vendors log in thier data into SRM systems and we create programs in Dev SRM systems for analysing where exactly the Data should reach.Apart from these systems we would also have Hr systems all with SAP 4.6c.

PI acts as an interface which maps all the systems in the landscape. In PI we have integration engine. Integration Repository and Integration Directory. Integration repository is the place where we create all the scenarios for different systems to integrate.Inetgration directory is the place where we configure all the scenarios. Integration engine is the place where we execute all the configured scenarios.

Apart from the all the systems in the landscape, we have a central system as solution manager system which monitors all the systems in this landcsape and it acts as our Central System landscape directory.Which has all the information about the servers in the landscape...

Was this clear? Please feel free to post if you need any more info on this...

Hi,

It all depends upon the Business requirement. Some times Prod, Dev and Qty servers also can be in the same Landscape. Assume if the Customer business all over the world.. depending upon the requirement can have more than one landscape and making one landscape as the Master.

Thanks Guys but lets say a company has two landscapes

1. mySAP ERP 2005, BW, nw2004S (all related to SAP ERP)

2. Multiple ERPs like Oracle, PeopleSoft etc with SAP components

Then how do you differentiate between two landscapes? why might a company go for more than one landscape?

Hi Ashish

How many D, Q or P systems totally depends on the Company's requirement and User interraction. We can never freeze down.

Normally, The D, Q will be only 1. Even if a company has huge user base and user interraction they would go for two production system max. We can have a huge database and RAM running on a SAN environment with multiple instances and do a load balancing for all these users to log in to particular instance.

In my landscape we have only one D, Q and Prod PI systems.

When it comes to System landscape directory a company might have two or three sld's. One SLD containing all SRM blocks and other SLD containing all ERP blocks. SAP recommends not to have more than One SLD for all SAP Systems...

Is this answered your question?Post ur doubts...

Thanks Subbiah,

But could you tell me what blocks might make up SRM block and what other will make up ERP System Landscape?

All the SRM systems will make SRM blocks. In my landscape we implemented Plan driven procurement of SRM module, which invloves SRM systems to talk with MM systems with help of PI. PI is mandatory for Plan driven procurement..So all MM, SRM and PI comes under one landscape.

Before Netweaver 2004s, they were using R/3 systems. With BW and HR systems, so these systems are coming in a different landscape.

Thanks

Ashish,

You can have whatever you want in the sld, a birds eye view of it would mean it just describes the various modules present wherin, so based on ur solution you can create a mental picture of an organization having FI for the finance talking to SD to get sales data, which in turn updates MM with what was purchased, this data can then be sent through a purchasing external module called IP through XI and also to the r/3 system. In such a case your sld would hold a reference to all of them.

Hope that helps,
